Musical Musings

A sort of ‘Swansong’?

Until recently music was generally something I listened to but never really contemplated playing or indeed having a song written for me. I had been sent some music via Twitter which led me to buying some tickets for a local gig that would set in motion a curious set of events.

I was still working as a nurse at this point and although my hubby had retired I wasn’t quite ready to hang up my scrubs.

Collaborating with Danny Wright (up & coming pop punk musician from UK) was fun as despite the age difference we share a similar taste in music. Ostensibly  the song he wrote for me called Drive (4 Denise is about a road trip but the metaphor relates to approaching the ‘sunset years’ but not in a passive way. One of the lines of the song is about ‘making memories some more to keep’ & this I have been endeavouring to do, recording them as I go in the blog posts.

Drive(4Denise) Song Lyrics

Verse 1

It was the first day of summer
And we are heading nowhere
Can you taste the air?
Plan our adventure
Do you feel the same?
Here we go again
Pre – chorus 1
I will never ever say good bye
Life is short and this one is all mine

Chorus
Let me go into the sunset
Feeling crazy lets not waste it
Its not had to drive when you are waiting for me Oh I love the life of feeling free
So drive me to believe
Verse 2
Can we remain here
And refrain from care
Are we almost there?
The first day of our summer
Making memories
Some more to keep
Pre – chorus 2
I will never ever feel obliged
To pack all our hopes and leave it all behind

Chorus
Let me go into the sunset
Feeling crazy lets not waste it
Its not had to drive when you are waiting for me Oh I love the life of feeling free
So drive me to believe
Bridge
Are you coming to?
Chorus x 2
Let me go into the sunset
Feeling crazy lets not waste it
Its not had to drive when you are waiting for me Oh I love the life of feeling free
So drive me to believe

So my thanks go to Danny Wright who penned this song for me & I was lucky enough to have him come to my retirement party & play it live along with a number of other of his great songs. In sharing my song I hope it may make those who listen feel as motivated as I do to take up & overcome what ever obstacles they may face.

If you decide to play the link below & listen to my song I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Obviously this is not a song I have written but it has served to inspire me to write my own music & lyrics.
