This section holds the blogs that have been posted documenting the recent road trips I have undertaken along with updates of the retirement challenges that I have been set.
With a weekend in LA we made the most of it by going on a bus tour to see some of the key sights and then caught up with my daughters charming friend who being a native was able to take us to places that probably were not on the normal tourist route. I discovered Malbec and a whiz up in the air to watch the sun go down from the tallest structure.
We walked for miles along the promenade from Muscle Beach to the pier and shopping precinct of Santa Monica. Stuffing ourselves with an In & Out Burger after poking around the canals of Venice before heading to the heart of the city for a quick trip on the shortest commercial railway followed by wine in an intimate hidden watering hole.
We joined our host the following day for afternoon tea where there were over 80 different teas to pick from in a cute tea shop before heading across to Las Vegas.
Careful what you whinge about on Facebook as a missed opportunity to go to Glastonbury led me to bemoan the fact to my followers who promptly came up with some alternatives.
The first was an invitation to the USA to attend the Sasquatch Festival from my lovely niece and partner the second a challenge from a colleague to see if we could get tickets for Burning Man.
As I leapt at the chance to nip across the pond my daughter returned from overseas and smelling the opportunity to visit her cousin on foreign shores gallantly ‘volunteered’ to come with me. This substantially altered the logistics from me on a solo flight and hitching a lift in the nieces camper van to a full blown road trip.
To incorporate the visiting of various iconic places and reunion with old friends of my daughter the route began to lengthen to the point where it became necessary to hire a camper of our own. Given my daughter normally drives a small Daewoo the choice of vehicle was limited to a Ford Maverick as I was clear that I was not going to be the chauffeur for 3000 miles.
So thanks to Escape Camper Vans for the hire of Mosaic or Mo for short as I began the first of two epic trips this year.
