Wednesday Is My New Weekend

Whilst writing this on a Sunday I confess that it does not feel like the weekend. Lockdown days are now some what of an amorphous blob of what has been coined the ‘new normal’.

I still awake & go out across the fields for my morning doggless walk (some habits are hard to break) but now head back for a 20 minute self inflicted beasting by app plus stretch & roller. Breakfast is followed by a quick shower & weather depending getting on with some sort of task that is on the stay at home ‘to do’ list.

In the slightly dystopian world we now seem to be inhabiting I find that my mid week ‘day of rest’ via the exercise app now supplants Sunday as the anchor point of the week. The new topsy turvy living will likely see us emerge as vegetarians as a result of the role reversal living my daughter & I have indulged in where she has been doing the cooking & shopping leaving me free to sneak off to my office to spend time learning how to make animated video clips & take part in zoom meetings.

My moving background of tropical fish on zoom generated that ‘but retired women don’t do tech’ reaction that is so sadly familiar. I didn’t have a computer at home until I was in my late 20’s & my involvement with computers limited. However times change & with determination I have been able to improve my skills with a little perseverance. Fear of all things seems to be the stumbling block which seems to creep up with chin hair & the need for reading glasses. The secret then is to make a pact with yourself to try & thwart it at every opportunity so that is my mission.

…….that’s why i have done things like this !

I happened on a saying on Pinterest the other day that I saved which intimated that the minute you felt too old to do something then then that’s the time to give it a go. Hence in my case the unicycling & juggling. Both have been hampered by a small procedure to one led initially then the lockdown so I am endeavouring to try & get going with them again. Filming will also be a challenge because I am not used to talking & filming myself. Added to which trying to balance on one wheel when you can’t even ride a two wheeled cycle might be entertaining to say the least.

As I post this I am almost ready to switch the ‘on’ button to a music based project that I have been working on & toying with the idea of enrolling on an online creative writing course. One thing for sure the lockdown time for me personally certainly has not proved boring & I am well on the way to a ‘six pack’! Well four out of six isn’t too bad & I still have a week to go before the ‘bangin body’ regime finishes. Its definitely having an effect & I believe I will be incorporating this daily effort for long after lockdown ends.

Meanwhile I am off to lime paint a section of wall that I replastered a few days ago. The joys of living in an old building in the depths of rural England means there is always some kind of repair waiting to be done.

Catch you all later & meanwhile find something interesting or challenging to do & stay safe.

A wife & mother embracing early retirement travelling, attending festivals & gigs whilst trying to learn how to play guitar & write music. In my own way trying to help break down the misconception that women over a certain age can't do stuff & its never too late to have a go at something new.
